A new venture
This year, several friends have mentioned to me that they do take a note of the places I eat at and post photos of on Facebook, with others asking for travel-related advice. One friend asked if I’d like to help plan their holiday, and another mentioned that I could be a holiday planner. After some thought, and encouragement from several friends including my “sister” blogger, I decided that perhaps I should document my tips and suggestions somewhere that could be accessed by all my friends for years to come.
Those who know me well know that I’m a compulsive list-maker. Here are some of the reasons that led me to embark upon this new venture:
1. It was my childhood dream to be an author. I also wanted to be a sweet shop owner. Or a preschool teacher. Or Dana Scully. But, regarding the author thing, I actually did get together with a group of friends with similar aspirations and wrote a book! It was based all too closely on the Five Find-Outer books by Enid Blyton that we loved so much at the time, and not very good at all. In fact, by the time we reached our teens, we were so embarrassed about it, we decided to burn our manuscript. Yes, I do somewhat regret this. It would have made for a fun read now. Ah, the follies, compulsiveness and insecurities of youth…
2. As an archive. My memory is fading with age and I’m all too often losing this recipe or that important link to something that interested me. I thought this would be a good place for me to store recipes, travel links, etc for future reference.
3. A photo record. Aka an excuse to take more food photos.
4. A place to indulge in one of my favourite hobbies, list-making. I’m talking travel bucket lists. Places I want to eat at. Festivals I want to experience. Basically, reminders for myself.
5. Reviews of restaurants, hotels, recipes, and anything else travel or nom related. All with the aim of making things easier for my friends to embark on their own travel and nom related adventures. So, with that in mind, do let me know if you have any holidays planned that you would like advice about, or restaurants that you’re thinking of trying. If I’ve been there/experienced that, I’ll try and give an honest and objective account. And if not, I’ll try and do some research on your behalf. After all, I’m always up for new experiences. Like this one. I hope you’ll enjoy this new venture of mine!
